Today, the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department works in partnership with the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department. While the VVFD owns and maintains the station, as well as owning the equipment, Fairfax County provides 24-hour staffing with paid firefighters and paramedics on three shifts.

Vienna Volunteers work hand in hand with these professionals, providing supplemental staffing on the career fire engine and paramedic unit, as well as additional units such as an ambulance and engine. Volunteers also provide resources for large community events like Viva Vienna, Celebrate Fairfax and the Vienna Carnival.

Vienna Volunteers also work closely with other volunteer fire departments in Fairfax County, pooling resources to provide the best possible service to the community.
