When you join the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department (VVFD), you’re not just filling a role—you’re stepping into a mission. Whether you’re racing toward a fire, saving lives, helping raise funds, or serving as the administrative backbone of a thriving 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, you’re part of something bigger: a tight-knit team with a shared purpose—protecting our community.
Plus, members who contribute 240 hours of service annually and are residents of Fairfax County or Fairfax City may qualify for a personal property tax exemption on one vehicle.
Whether you’re drawn to action or prefer to support behind the scenes, there’s a place for you here.
Serve as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or a Firefighter/EMT, and even as a Paramedic—each path begins with comprehensive, world-class training. Once certified, you’ll respond to real emergencies across Vienna and Fairfax County, while also serving community events like Viva Vienna.
Not everyone in the department does fieldwork, if responding to emergencies isn’t your thing, you can still be a vital part of our team. Administrative members keep the department running through committees, logistics, outreach, fundraising, and leadership roles.
Our VVFD Auxiliary is the heart of our fundraising efforts—and they’ve been at it since 1927! From purchasing Vienna’s first ambulance, the work continues to fund life-saving vehicles, tools, and training.
Our members represent a cross section of our community, including students, retirees, engineers, nurses, small business owners, educators, lawyers, business executives, military members, police officers, and government employees—many having proudly served the VVFD for decades. Whether you’re 16 or 86, there’s a meaningful place for you here.
