So let's clear something up. Santa loves his 1946 Maxim fire engine. And last year, it had a catastrophic failure of the original transmission. A 75 year old transmission is hard to work on and even harder to rebuild. But we did it! Santa's favorite sleigh is back in action with a new (to us) transmission. Santa Is Back!
Along with the new transmission, Santa also requested that we try something else new - new maps! With the popularity of Santa Runs continuing to grow, we have changed our areas and added an 8th to allow us a greater opportunity to get to all streets in the town. Santa will be stepping on board his cherished sleigh - the 1946 Maxim fire engine. The Vienna Volunteer firefighters, deputized as Santa's elves, will be escorting him around the town spreading cheer to the good boys and girls of ALL ages in Vienna. As Santa roams around town, listen for the sirens and music and look for the lights. As we come down your street, step outside! Back by popular demand, candy canes have returned and the elves will distributing them to kids waiting for Santa by the street! View the overall map and the schedule to get a better idea of when we'll be in your neighborhood. We are hoping that with our new sleigh mechanic recruited directly from the North Pole, we will be able to avoid mechanical difficulties and follow this schedule. Please keep in mind however that weather, mechanical issues, or other factors may cause us to deviate or not complete our schedule. Any changes to the schedule will be updated here and Twitter. Santa and his VVFD elves look forward to seeing you around town! FAQ.Q: What streets will you be covering?
A: Santa tries to make it to every street in the area to be covered for that evening. We are not always successful, each night is a little different depending on the crew, routes, traffic, weather, truck, and number of neighbors out seeing Santa. Q: What time will you be by my street? A: Rudolf is in charge of the map each night, there is no set route to follow since conditions change for all the same reasons as above. Though generally we will attempt to work north to south or south or north. Your best bet is to watch the Santa Tracker on this page or on Santa's twitter feed @VVFDSanta and to listen to our sirens as we get close to your street! Q: We missed Santa when he came down our street. Will you come back? A: Unfortunately we do not have the time to do areas more than once, we are stretched to meet the full area each night. Q: You missed my street! A: We do what we can to make it to every street but occasionally miss one due to time, conditions, or simple oversight. Please note that we have to balance getting to all streets and running later into the night. We try to run no later than 8:15 on week nights after many complaints over the years of noise and sleeping children. Q: Will you have a Santa Tracker this year? A: Yes! See the Santa Tracker below. You can also follow Santa on Twitter @VVFDSanta. We'll sent out a notice when Santa is on the road, with a link to the Glympse Santa Tracker. |
