The engine is staffed 24/7 by 4 career firefighters from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. At least one of these firefighters must be a paramedic, which enables the Engine 402 to provide the same level of advanced life support medical care that a medic unit can, with the exception of transport.
Qualified suppression or EMS only volunteers provide supplemental staffing when available and act as extra hands on emergency calls.
